According to recent reports by the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA),Octant Tanga Energy is preparing to drill its upcoming exploratory well in the Tanga Block, following positive results from a reprocessed 3D seismic interpretation.
The company has identified eight viable drilling prospects and is in the early stage of evaluating local goods and services to support the drilling.
This development represents a clear advancement for exploration in Tanzania’s northeastern basin, and Octant’s operations should bring a new focus to Tanga’s hydrocarbon potential.
Maurel & Prom is preparing for a three-well campaign in Mnazi Bay.
Meanwhile, Maurel et Prom Exploration Production Tanzania Ltd (M&P)—operator of the prolific Mnazi Bay gas field located in the Mtwara Region—is in advance steps towards a three-well gas drilling campaign planned for November 2025.
In its most recent operational update, M&P reported that all primary contracts needed to begin the drilling operation have been awarded, affirming significant movement towards commencement.
Rig inspected and cleared for shipment to Tanzania.
As part of M&P’s preparations growing in anticipation of the campaign, PURA also was part of the inspection and testing of the drilling rig to be used on the Mnazi Bay wells.
The inspection occurred in Tianjin Province, China, to ensure the rig was performance and safety tested and was operating efficiently prior to shipping to Tanzania.
This involvement by PURA highlights its readiness to ensure regulatory compliance and operational readiness of the rig, ahead of upstream activities in the country.
