Invictus Energy is preparing to drill its next exploration well, Musuma-1, in the second half of this year.
This will be the first well the company has drilled since making its Mukuyu discovery through two exploration wells in 2022–2023.
Unlike the previous campaign, the Musuma-1 well will target a much shallower depth of approximately 1,500 metres, compared with around 3,360 metres for the Mukuyu wells drilled in 2022–2023.
The company has awarded a series of contracts, including:
– Well pad construction and civil works, including access road upgrades and water supply.
– Rig mobilisation. A team is now on its way to Zimbabwe, while the drilling rig is already in the country.
– Logistics and mobilisation services, which will be awarded once the drilling and well service providers have been finalized.
The drilling rig has remained in Zimbabwe on warm stack since the 2022–2023 drilling campaign.
Invictus Energy holds an 80% interest in a large exploration block in the Cabora Bassa Basin in Zimbabwe. The company is exploring and developing what is considered one of Africa’s largest and last largely untested frontier rift basins.
As Invictus Energy prepares to begin drilling in the second half of this year, Tanzania Petroleum will closely follow the project’s progress by tracking rig mobilisation, funding confirmation, the start of drilling operations, and key operational updates.
